Tattered

My ongoing textile work is finding a direction at last.  I have done a piece a week.   I am currently about to start piece 44. The piece starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday.  I set myself the boundaries of between 10 and 30 mins a day.  I have become quicker and now the boundaries have changed to 3 arm length threads a day with the set up day being Sunday.  The work is about landscape and is personal and intimate to me.  It is abstract, but the content is about boundaries and walking journeys across the landscape I live in.  Daily routines of stepping across the landscape with the dogs.

To prepare some of the fabric I dye it with plants found in my landscape close to home.  I also bury the fabric.  Today I dug up 2 lots of fabric which I buried around Christmas time.  Here is the result of one – in tatters!!  The other fell apart as I tried to handle it.  Lesson learned?  Dont leave it too long!!

Stitch has moved into the house.  She has a crate to sleep in for a while as grumpy granny is a bit too grumpy at times.  Stitch decided that this was a good place to store mum, and shut her in this morning!  Not quite the idea, but creative!

Butter wouldn’t melt?

The garden is looking great – well where we had reasonable control over the pups at least –

Run for Shelter

Somebody keeps pouring puppies right under my feet EVERYWHERE I go!!  They are on the loose!  They can escape out of anywhere!  Some of them dig and some climb but they all see an open gate and literally pour through the opening in lightening quick time!  For creatures so small they have an impressive turn of speed already!

Image

They have found a boat!  This morning they had 2 in the boat and 4 dragging it round!!  They invent incredible games with so much vigor and enthusiasm.

Image

This afternoon I thought if I let them all pour out of their pen into the garden to have the run of the place they would get tired and we would get some peace and quiet!

Image

Not such a great idea.

The only worn out ones are the people of the house and the big dogs.  ALL of us were terrorized into fleeing and climbing for peace.  4 dogs elevated to sofas begging to be let out of the garden into the furthest recesses of the house (not far) and 2 adults sitting cross legged on the kitchen table earnestly planning the next tactical move.  Planning to get from one side of the kitchen to the other now requires the training of the secret service and military precision with diversions in place.  It takes 2 – 3 adults to make a coffee now and as for loading the washing machine, well…..

Answers on a postcard if there are any bright ideas (if we ever get to picking the mail up first that is)!

Well its not raining at least!!

Dog babies.

Cor blimey! This has turned into nothing but puppy palace.

Ah well, if you can’t beat them, join them.

p.s. I still very much love the puppies, and it’s sad but also incredibly relieving to see them finding homes already. Living with thirteen dogs is getting somewhat challenging…

Slugs and snails and puppy dog’s tails

Hello there.

It’s been a while since you heard from me. I’ve undergone a massive career change, and to say that it’s kept me busy is somewhat of an understatement.

I’ve had a quick look over the past few entries, and it would seem that you guys have been overrun with puppy portraits, but nevertheless on their week birthday, I thought that it was high time I waded in and shared a few pictures, too:

They’re unbelievably small and delightful.

At the moment I want to keep them all, but I’m sure that in a week’s time I’ll be playing a different tune.

When they were being born, this time last week, it was disgusting and amazing in equal part. On the whole, I’m not completely sold on the whole birth/miracle of life thing. It all seems a little bit yucky. Lace didn’t seem to be too sold on it either…

Holes in Buckets and Other Sad Tails

There’s a hole in my bucket dear Liza!

Image

With what shall I mend it?

Image

We are depressed.  We have a hole in our paw and a sad tail.

Image

We have to wear a bucket.

This is not a good thing.  We can no longer judge width, speed or direction.  We can not be taken seriously.  We need mending.  Soon.

How green is green?

My walk this evening with the dogs. I love green. Is it any wonder? To me it is obvious why I hand paint yarn! Nothing in nature is a flat single colour. These are my surroundings, just out of my back gate. These beautiful myriad of colours change every day and every season all of the time. This is my influence. This is my visual inspiration. These are the colours I choose, sometimes in the details, sometimes in the shadows, sometimes in the full sun and sometimes just because they are there.

Dad and pup off exploring in the stream. Pup and mum walk home. Pup has adventures in the long grass. All the dogs enjoying the cooler evening, beautiful light and long cool grasses.

Perfect way to spend an evening.

Summer Weather

It is SO gorgeous outside at the moment. Everything is lush and green and the hedgerows are crammed with gorgeousness! Bees and butterflies are frantically busy and my pup who is now 9 weeks (how did that happen??) has joined in with her whooping joy of living. She is like a hairy spider. She must have at least 8 legs when she speeds around the garden. When she is sleeping she only has 4. I know, I counted! They are like sturdy stilts, she has failed to notice that when she wakes up she cant fit where she used to! She practices prancing on her new length legs all day, but when she wakes up in the morning, there they are again only longer………. much longer. Off to practice again!!

Dad is exhausted with it all and remembers well that it is impossible to keep up with shrinking furniture. So he sleeps in the day…………..

And wakes up when it is cool and then does laps around the garden at 150 miles an hour.

So I can hardly keep up with it all. Bills keep coming and things are tight to say the least. How can I stem the flow of demands? I listed some of my life on ebay to see if anyone wanted to help me ut and buy some. We shall see!

So………… I am enjoying knitting this:

Its in my Lleyn/mohair (blue) and Shetland (green). I just cast on to see what would happen. And this happened:

I love it but would like to know where it thinks its going? But never let the detail spoil the direction and flow, so we shall see. I am knitting it as a sample, whatever it is! It is lovely to knit with so the experience is good enough for the time being.

Off to take the dogs to the stream in the valley for a cool off before supper.
