Busy Easter

This has been a gorgeous Easter!  Apart from Easter day when the rain fell earnestly, it has been gorgeous!  I have been very busy.  I had a long awaited clear out.  I had to clear out a lot of things which were still damp from the flooding.  I had to tidy up and sort things out.  One of my daughters helped me which is such a supportive thing to do!  Clearing out can be emotional and very tiring.  We worked all day and had an enormous bonfire which was very cleansing in an odd sort of way.

The dogs decided that all this busyness was infectious and they decided to start improving the garden.  So they got together and decided that what the garden really needed was a pond.

Image

So they dug one.  This has the advantage of doubling up as a useful hole or a pond when it rains!!  Result!

Image

Then 2 of them thought they could plant something in the hole, but they could not decide which way up it should go.  This took some time and resulted in many little options!!  The ‘pond’ is now big enough to place the terrier in without being noticed.  Work in progress..

I have been dying.  LOTS!!  Now I am trying to dry!  The cottage is FULL of wet wool in various forms!  The smell is not as good as the appearance!

Puppy Power

Once upon a time, five weeks ago to be exact, 9 puppies were born in Somerset.  The wind was howling and the rain was lashing, but these brave puppies decided to broaden their horizons and view a bigger world.  They were all perfect and beautiful.  There were 6 girls and 3 boys.

Image

As time went on these puppies began to learn all sorts of things.  They opened their eyes and began to see the world and each other.  They learnt how to stand and then how to dance and bounce (well nearly).  They learnt that a certain sound produced a paddling pool which was fun.  And then they learnt that the paddling pool actually had great stuff in it for eating!  They learnt to fight and play and be terribly brave about scary things like long grass and feathers and imaginary hiding things!

Image

They were visited by all sorts of people (mainly the sort with high voices) and they learnt that squeaking voices meant that you were in for a cuddle if you werent careful.  Cuddles interrupt a perfectly busy day and although they are not too bad, it really proves inconvenient as its so hard to remember what you were so busy doing before being lifted to the sky and cooed over.

Image

Four of the 9 puppies were picked and booked.  Now there are 3 little boys (possibly only 2) (lalalalalalalala ….. did I just say that out loud??????).  3boys and 2 girls.  Now if you need organising then 2 of the boys are your man.  They show me every morning how to muck them out, where the food should go and how quickly it should go there.  And they always rearrange the bed as I am incapable of finding exactly the right spot on my own, ever!

Image

One of the boys is absolutely STUNNING.  He will make a good sized dog and is strong and intelligent and very very handsome.  The other boy is very very busy.  He has to do everything at a run and consequently has to catch up on sleep every now and then in order to keep the world running when he is up and about.  He is friendly and playful and very pretty.  The other boy (what other boy???) has picked me out and I am trying not to notice.  Somehow he always ends up with me.  From past experience boy dogs are loyal, extremely trainable, anxious to please, full of character and if you want a friend pick a dog every time!

Image

The girls.  Well these are both fine featured and will be absolutely gorgeous dogs, just like bitches should be.  They have fine bones and broken coats.  They are less bouncy and bossy than the other girls but form attachment easily.  These 2 will make very biddable dogs and will be easy to train, they are anxious to please.

Image

Training these dogs is rewarding as they are very biddable.  They love a good bounce and a good game but equally love to sleep for hours on end stretched out on their backs (the world is a much better place upside down!).

Part Time/Full Time

Apparently have decided in my alternative world of ‘I should have more time’ to interact with my full time life on a part time basis. So besides having animals to care for and about 42 puppies (6 in reality, but definitely 42 on last count), I must have thought I should start something new. Maybe this is something to do with old age and being in denial, or maybe I just needed a break in my head? Who knows? So this is what I decided to do…..

I am a knitter. Through and through a knitter. I have never been able to grasp crochet. Not at all. My crochet attempts have so far always involved dubious language and a pair of sharp scissors. I made an attempt with my friend who is superb at crochet, and this almost ended in tears. I crochet like a knitter. And the problem with this is????? Anyway I have started 2 projects (never by halves this one), and all scissors have been removed from my reach. This is what I am attempting,…

Not perfect but PROGRESS!!! I will not reveal however how long this took me OR how many attempts I made. Plus I have discovered matches have an even more satisfactory result than scissors!

Wonderwool was great but left me feeling like I had been hit by a train! And I still have not sorted the stock from where we unloaded (is the crochet the lesser of 2 evils??). But I WILL!! I have also been visiting the flocks I buy fleece from and collected so much Shetland on Thursday I had to share the driving seat with ram fleece. The dogs were well impressed when I got home. The puppy people less so. Funny how you get used to smell….. Or not!

So part time projects in a full time life seem to fit the bill right now. I am off to get enough fabric to finish those patchwork trousers I started over the bank holiday……..

Busy!

ImageImage

Hello! I am currently in ‘granny’ mode, hence the lack of blogs. The reason lies in the photos. Mum and Dad, expecting this weekend!! So exciting! I have to admit that this has taken up most of my mind space the last week.

That aside I have been dyeing for a new and exciting spin to launch at Wonderwool in April. Also very exciting. AND I have commissioned a new laceweight spin with Shetland, Jacob and Alpaca, yummmmmmm!!

Also I finished lots of kids knits which are in Up to Seven in Bath, and I am very pleased with these too. All my designs!

Talking of which I am currently working on some gorgeous new designs which I will get published as patterns when they are totally done and test knitted.

WOW!! All sounds very busy and indeed it has been, but all exciting and new. With spring comes new life and new starts and better weather one hopes! Well 2 out of 3 ain’t bad!
